Dr. Peter Jeffery (United States)
Dr. Peter Jeffery is an internationally renowned scholar of Gregorian chant, medieval liturgy, and early Christian worship. He is the Scheide Professor of Music History Emeritus at Princeton University and the Michael P. Grace II Professor of Medieval Studies Emeritus at the University of Notre Dame, and has also taught at Harvard University and the University of Delaware. In 1985, he received the Alfred Einstein Award from the American Musicological Society, and in 1987 he became the first musicologist to be awarded the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship.
Author of over 100 scholarly articles and numerous books, his major works include Re-Envisioning Past Musical Cultures, Translating Tradition, Ethiopian Christian Chant, and The Secret Gospel of Mark Unveiled. His research bridges historical musicology with the living practice of Church music, profoundly shaping contemporary understanding of sacred music and medieval religious culture.
